The time when you can't travel is a good time to do some travel daydreaming. There are few better detsinations than Nepal, which is surprising as it's such a small country. But it has some of the world's most stunning scenery, along with its highest peak. Here are some photos - well worth taking up a couple of minutes of your day:

Gracious me, very pretty indeed. But what of the lavatory facilities? Is it a practical choice if you don't drive?

Some things are better left unasked until you actually plan to go there.

My main holiday this year included Nepal, but it was cancelled. I'll save looking at this link for Christmas Day to compund the disappointment.

If you're looking for good lavatory facilities, you can't beat New Zealand.
Not allowed there at the moment though.

Amazing country.
Particularly loved Pokhara. I spent a few days floating around on the lake (Phewa Tal?) waiting for a mirror of the Annapurna's reflected in the lake. Walked the Annapurna circuit.
Got chased up a tree by a rhino in Chitwan.
Loved Khatmandu with lights out at 9:00 pm so just chat by candle-light.
Love that the Nepalese ignore altitude and rivers when moving between two points on a map.
Hated Everest base camp which didn't reflect the charm of the rest of the country. Also, my fag kept going out.

Love to go there, home of the Gurkhas
Is it possible to visit Everest base camp, or is it only for accredited climbers?

Anyone can go there (although you'll need a trekking permit once you're in country). Base Camp is about 10,000' ASL and altitude sickness starts above about 8,000'. You can either trek there to acclimatise yourself or fly - not for the faint-hearted. Search youtube for Lukla approach and landing - enjoy :-)

For that glassy look on the lake, first thing in the morning is often best.
Rhinos have poor eyesight, but compensate with a keen sense of smell. I once got chased by wild elephants in Bardiya. Not something I'd be in a hurry to repeat.

You can get to base camp via Lukla but not everyone can acclimatise to the altitude, no matter how fit you are. I'd love to try it one day, plus Nepalese birds are certified sorts.
